To All FONASBA Members,

Dear Colleagues,

Happy 2025 to you, your colleagues, friends, and families.

We trust this message finds you well.

We are thrilled to announce the new edition of the FONASBA Young Ship Agent or Ship Broker Award.

Here, you will find the criteria for this year’s competition.

Owing to the generous support from our esteemed partners, we are in the privileged position to offer three awards this year, expanding our recognition beyond the customary prizes.

The winner of the first prize will receive the following, courtesy of FONASBA, its Club Members ITIC and BIMCO and the Barcelona Ship Agents’ Association, ACB: cash awards of €1,000 from FONASBA and €500.00 from ITIC, complimentary access to a BIMCO e-Learning module of their choice and complimentary entry into either the FONASBA ACB Liner Shipping Transportation or Tramp Shipping course. They will also receive a certificate recognising their achievement. Furthermore, the first prize winner will have the opportunity to present their work at the Annual Meeting scheduled for October 2025 in Istanbul, Türkiye.

The winner of the second prize will receive the following, courtesy of Fonasba members in the USA, ASBA, complimentary entry into their course on Shipbrokering & Charter Vessel Operations (SBCVO).

We are pleased to share that this edition of the Award features an exciting new development: the introduction of a third prize. This has been made possible through the generous support of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, which has donated five textbooks with a commercial value of £550.00.

Please note the YABA 2025 Timeline for your reference:

Step 1: Submission of paper abstracts, including concepts. Deadline: 24th February 2025

Step 2: Review Committee feedback to candidates on submitted proposals. Deadline: 10th March 2025

Step 3: Submission of final papers. Deadline: 26th May 2025

Step 4: Announcement of YABA 2025 winners. Date: 21st July 2025

Regarding the Review Process, we are pleased to maintain and expand upon our rigorous evaluation standards. This year, the Review Committee will be composed of:

The Committee Chair, nominated by the Executive Committee: Aziz Mantrach, who will be supported by BIMCO, Stinne Taiger Ivø and ITIC, Mark Brattman and their respective teams.

The Chair of the FONASBA Education and Quality Committee, Antonios Venieris.

Longstanding member Jakov Karmelic, former FONASBA VP for Education, who continues to bring invaluable expertise.

Our newest addition to the Review Committee, with Anacreon Mataragas from International Maritime Union in Greece.

We sincerely thank all Committee members for their dedication to this vital initiative, which underscores FONASBA’s commitment to excellence.
