Please find attached copy of a comprehensive and detailed report compiled by the Cargo Information Notification System and Network (CINS Network), the International Group of P&I Clubs, ICHCA, (the cargo handling association) and the TT Club (the P&I Club for shippers), on the dangers of transporting lithium-ion batteries in containers. We are very grateful to CINS for coordinating production of this work, and for allowing is to distribute it. Thanks also go to ECASBA Vice Chair Jean-Pascal Bidoire for bringing it to our attention. 

This detailed work covers all aspects of the shipping of such batteries, either as a standalone cargo item or as a component in a larger item such as an electric car. Clearly shipments of such batteries are only going to increase, and it follows there will inevitably be a corresponding rise in issues such as fires and explosions.

We would recommend you circulate this report widely amongst your members, and their principals, for information.’’
