Dear All,
Having actively contributed to the actions of the international group of
associations in raising the plight of stranded seafarers, driving actions to
allow crew changes and ensuring maritime transport can continue to operate
during the COVID-19 pandemic, we welcome the decision by the United Nations
General Assembly to recognise “seafarers and other marine personnel” as key
workers in paragraph 3 of Resolution A/75/L.37, copy attached. It also
recognises the importance of shipping to the normal functioning of society,
both generally and in relation to the pandemic and calls for action to increase
the resilience of supply chains, ensure the right of seafarers to decent
working and living conditions and protect their human rights.
